Mindscapes, 2018
Video-Art
A film by Muriel Paraboni
SINOPSYS
A fish swims in deep waters, exploring an unknown territory. The boundaries seem indefinite, limited just by darkness. Such is the mind, such is the abstract space of the senses and perceptions, where every emotion and thought begins to shape the whole world.
ABOUT
Mindscapes is a metaphor but rather a study, an experience. All states of being unfold in this subtle space, without time or form: sensations, impulses, thoughts. Calm, doubt, hesitation, anxiety, fury, all that, in the limit, constitute the subjective world around. But it is also in the passages through these states that beauty may happen, kind of creative accident, a dance capable of making confinement a poetic of movement and multiplication.

STATEMENT
Mindscapeswas initially conceived as part of a multi-channel video installation, and was thus presented in its first versions in 2016 and 2017. The intention was to produce a sensory experience of empty space, an abstract emptiness, full of possibilities, territory for the active participation of the subjects mind: like thought, the fish swims this space, defines meaning, plays freely with its limits. In other words, mind itself is immersed in an ocean of ether where all stimuli are perceived and can be transformed.
In the form of video art, contrary to expectations, there was an expansion of the ideas contained in the original installation: in a paradoxical way, the confinement of the fish to the video expanded its concepts and, more than that, deepened its meanings. Without the other elements of the installation, Ether showed itself to be a metaphorical study of the mind, the fish embodying the sensory, emotional, affective, instinctive drives of being, the oceanic movement of thoughts that, in the limit, may produce the entire subjective world.
In this way, nothing that was in the installation was lost. The video emphasized the abstraction of space and the multiplicity of facets deployed by the fish. The sensory crescendo sought in the physical installation benefited from the video immersion, emphasizing forms and sounds. Ether thus went beyond a study, an analogy between the fish´s behavior and the mind, becoming so a rhythmic, kind of musical video-piece, whose tensions and strains may touch a varied multiplicity of individual sensibilities.

Oceans, 2016-19
Video Art
Artist: Muriel Paraboni
SYNOPSIS
‘Oceans’ is a kind of dialogue-homage to painters of American abstract expressionism, especially Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko, for whom simple and elementary forms would be the bearers of the truth. The work therefore speaks, in its abstract movements, of metaphysical and subtle oceans, of the sensitive and creative mind in its struggle to get in touch with the essences of artistic making.
ABOUT
The work was originally conceived as part of a video installation that bears the same name. Projected on a transparent voile, the environment is complemented by the video art ‘Mindscapes’ and both in dialogue establish the subtle relationships between space and mind.
As a video art piece, 'Oceans' goes beyond, or rather, enhances its essence by also turning to abstract art and its foundations, poetically discussing the properties of space and metaphysical emptiness, as well as the aesthetic connotations of simple and elementary forms.

Let Them Laugh, 2019
Video Art
Artist: Muriel Paraboni
SYNOPSIS
A face reflected on the surface of the water. He has all the time to look at and, who knows, understand a little more about himself and the dark space that surrounds him. Distortions in the image and digital experiments in a glitch style accompany the reactions of the performer, punctuating moments of discovery and relaxation, such as passages of tension, dread and uncertainty, such is the tortuous way of growing and knowing oneself in this world.
ABOUT
The title of the work refers to the poetry recited in the film 'Stalker', by Andrei Takovski, in which the character alludes to everyone who, unable to penetrate the depths of being, is given to laugh at all those who have some metaphysical passion. The work was originally presented projected on the bottom of a vat with water, in an installation that invites the public to look at themselves in an ambiguous kind digital of mirror.

Lumens, 2016-20
Video Art
Artist: Muriel Paraboni
SYNOPSIS
Inspired by the abstract paintings of Mondrian, Rothko and Barnett Newmann, 'Lumens' explores sensorial atmospheres through color and form. Combining fragments of images and climatic fields, the work unfolds space and time based on an experience with rhythms and repetitions, where everything that returns always returns differently.
ABOUT
The work was originally conceived as a multi-channel video installation called 'Luminescences'. The title refers to the work of poet Arthur Rimbaud, at its time conceived under a strong impression of the visual rhythms of modern art and technologies, also enunciating jazz and the poetic writing. Such environmental conception shapes the work as a kind of abstract landscape, which is enhanced here in the form of video art.
The video gets rid of the word and the external realistic and cultural references that made up the original video installation, in order to become a landscape itself. Abstraction refers the senses to forms and rhythms, to the structure of the work as a piece of experiment and visual language, image and sound as analogous to thought and perception.
